Historical biogeography of the family Tristiridae (Orthoptera: Acridomorpha) applying dispersal–vicariance analysis

چکیده

Distributional history of the South American endemic group Tristiridae was reconstructed applying DIVA. The results suggest that Tristiridae originated within an area currently represented by Puna and Patagonia. Three lineages split thence: one dispersed into Desert, a second one became restricted to Patagonia and a third persisted in the original areas. The latter lineage underwent a vicariant event that split Puna and Patagonia, and dispersed from Puna to Yungas and Central Chile. A subsequent vicariant event divided Puna and Yungas from Central Chile. Finally, Puna was separated from Yungas, possibly due to a vicariant or dispersal event. In order to interpret biogeographical events that affected the family Tristiridae, these results are contrasted with the major geologic events occurring in South America since early Miocene. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Historical biogeography of Haloragaceae: an out-of-Australia hypothesis with multiple intercontinental dispersals.

Haloragaceae are a cosmopolitan plant family with its centre of diversity in Australia. Here, we investigate the historical biogeography of the family and the role of vicariance or dispersal in shaping its current distribution. DNA sequences from ITS, matK and the trnK 5' and trnK 3' introns were obtained for 102 species representing all 8 genera of Haloragaceae for use in Bayesian molecular da...

Implications of Rbcl Phylogeny for Historical Biogeography of Genus Mercurialis L.: Estimating Age and Center of Origin

The aim of this study was to address questions concerning the historical biogeography of the genus Mercurialis in the subfamily Acalyphoideae. Applying a molecular clock to obtained rbcL phylogeny, we estimated the minimal age of divergence of genus Mercurialis to ~65-66 Ma, placing it at the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. We used ancestral area analysis and dispersal-vicariance analysis to inf...

Phylogeny and historical biogeography of trans-Andean cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Cichlidae)

We reconstruct the historical biogeography of cichlid fishes endemic to the trans-Andean region of NW South America. DNA sequences were used to study historical biogeography of the cichlid genera Andinoacara (Cichlasomatini) and Mesoheros (Heroini). Two eventbased methodological approaches, parsimony-based Statistical Dispersal-Vicariance Analysis (S-DIVA) and likelihood-based DispersalExtincti...

Dispersal is fundamental to biogeography and the evolution of biodiversity on oceanic islands

Since the dispersal versus vicariance debate of the 1970s and early 1980s and the broad acceptance and melding of the theories of cladistics and plate tectonics, vicariance approaches to historical biogeography have dominated the last two or three decades. Only vicariant mechanisms were considered to offer testable patterns and refutable hypotheses, dispersal being a random process essentially ...

The resurrection of oceanic dispersal in historical biogeography.

Geographical distributions of terrestrial or freshwater taxa that are broken up by oceans can be explained by either oceanic dispersal or vicariance in the form of fragmentation of a previously contiguous landmass. The validation of plate-tectonics theory provided a global vicariance mechanism and, along with cladistic arguments for the primacy of vicariance, helped create a view of oceanic dis...
